Campo Alegre Toro 2012
Wine EnthusiastDirect, pointed black cherry, cassis and black plum aromas are ripe as can be, as is the palate, which feels a bit bumpy and tannic but not heavy or out of balance. Rich, chocolaty blackberry and peppery flavors finish with moderately rough tannins, but everything else is easy. Drink through 2020.
VinousOpaque ruby. Ripe cherry and blackberry scents are complicated by notes of licorice, woodsmoke and fresh rose, with a hint of black pepper in the background. Juicy and seamless in texture, offering intense dark berry and cola flavors that pick up spiciness and sweetness with air. Supple tannins build on the finish, which clings with excellent tenacity and spicy persistence.
Wine SpectatorA smooth texture carries round flavors of plum, candied cherry and vanilla, while herbal and light earthy accents add a savory note. A bit muted, but harmonious. Drink now through 2018.
