Nicolas Potel
Nicolas bought this parcel planted in 1913, and his first vintage was 2004. There is a superb selection-at-large which lends a fat and ample character associated with old vines to this cuvée. Five other parcels, purchased with the typically strict Potel nose for quality, have vines aged 50 to 70 years. Total production is 1,500 cases per year.
Food Match: white meats, veal, roasts, pork, grilled meats, duck, beef.
Wine Spectator
Alluring aromas of violet and raspberry announce this delicate red. Red berries hold court on the palate, and this shows lovely harmony and purity, with fine length. Drink now through 2014.

Wine Advocate
The nose of a Potel 2006 Savigny-les-Beaune sets up an interesting contrast between fresh strawberry and smoky black tea aromas, which continues on a palate of firmness and slight angularity. Chalky, stony notes enhance a sense of austerity in the finish, but this is impressive for its sheer grip, and the stream of fresh fruit remains pure. I would plan on revisiting it in 2010 if one has any interest in assessing its potential for longer holding.

Certified organic vineyards must meet Demeter"s additional criteria for a period of one year before earning the designation "biodynamic."
Sustainably Grown
Sustainable practices incorporate organic standards and may exceed them and include ecologically and socially sound business practices such as fair pay for farm workers and energy conservation.
Screw Cap
Wines sealed with a screw cap as opposed to a cork, which experts report protects and preserves wine more effectively than does a cork, while also eliminating the possibility of cork taint.
No Sulfites
All wines naturally contain some sulfites, however wines that contain less than 10 parts per million sulfites are not required to include "Contains Sulfites" on their labels.

I still believe it is the simplest way to rate a wine, with its origins from grade school in the United States. A wine that I rate 90 points or more is outstanding (A), and worth buying. If I rate a wine 95 points or more (A+), it is a must buy.
